STREET FIGHTER: WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes Reportedly in Talks to Play Guile in Live-Action Film — GeekTyrant

Hot on the heels of yesterday's reveal that David Dastmalchian is stepping into the role of M. Bison in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, a new report from Nexus Point News is reporting that WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes is in talks to join the fight as Guile. Guile is the U.S. Air Force colonel with the iconic flat-top and the most American energy blast in video game history… Sonic Boom projectile! If true, Rhodes would follow in the footsteps of Jean-Claude Van Damme, who famously played Guile in the gloriously chaotic 1994 adaptation. That version may not have aged gracefully, but it's earned a nostalgic fanbase, mostly for how bonkers it was. Cody stepping into the role brings a completely different energy. Rhodes wouldn't be the only WWE star making the jump. Roman Reigns is reportedly in negotiations to play Akuma, the demonic fighter with a personal vendetta tied to Ryu and Ken. Jason Momoa has also been cast in the film and may be taking on the role of Blanka. Add in Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo as Ryu and Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, 50 Cent as Balrog, and Orville Peck as Vega, and you've got one of the wild ensemble cast! Kitao Sakurai is at the helm, known for his work on The Eric Andre Show and the upcoming Butterfly series on Amazon. Capcom's Street Fighter franchise has always had the ingredients for a killer movie with it iconic characters, over-the-top action, and a global fanbase. It just never quite clicked on the big screen. Maybe this time, with an all-in ensemble and a director willing to lean into the chaos of it all, they'll finally land that perfect combo. So, what to you think about the possibility of seeing Cody Rhodes as Guile?

Street Fighter: Walton Goggins Allegedly In Talks to Play M. Bison

Walton Goggins had played the villain in a video game movie way back when Alicia Vikander was Tomb Raider , but he could be getting physical in another video game property from Legendary. According to The InSneider, Goggins is currently in talks to play M. Bison for the Street Fighter movie. For context, Bison is considered one of the main villains in the franchise, and was also the main antagonist in the 1993 Street Fighter movie where he was played by Raul Julia. Though that movie is considered terrible by general audiences, it actually has cult status to cinephiles, and Raul Julia's portrayal of Bison was considered one of the best video game villain performances of all time. Going back to Goggins though, we know he can play a great villain, but it does feel like Bison should be able to have the physical chops as well if he's going to be a Street Fighter. If all he has to do is shoot Psycho Crushers at people though, I think it would be fun to just have Goggins just be as ridiculous of a villain as he can be. Heck, he can just do Uncle Baby Billy again from The Righteous Gemstones and I wouldn't complain: Should Goggins get the part, he would be joining a cast which includes Jason Momoa (Blanka), Andrew Koji (Ryu), Noah Centineo (Ken), and Roman Reigns (Akuma). Who knows, maybe they can get his Fallout co-star Ella Purnell to be the new Cammy; or should she be a British pop-star as well? No official release date has been set for Street Fighter , but it's expected to come to cinemas on 2026.

Walton Goggins Reprotedly in Talks To Play M. Bison in Live-Action STREET FIGHTER Film — GeekTyrant

Legendary's live-action Street Fighter movie is shaping up to be an interesting video game adaptation and according to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Walton Goggins, Eric André, and musician Orville Peck are all circling roles in the project, with Goggins reportedly in talks to take on the role of M. Bison. M. Bison is the iconic, cape-swirling villain once played by the legendary Raúl Juliá in the gloriously bonkers 1994 film adaptation. Sneider revealed the scoop in his newsletter, later elaborating on The Hot Mic podcast with co-host John Rocha. When asked how he felt about Goggins possibly stepping into the role, Sneider said, 'I was a little surprised,' adding, 'I thought he might land something a little bit more prestigious, but at the same time, it's also maybe time to get a nice movie paycheck.' It's not like Goggins isn't in demand. He's been killing it on TV, from his electric turn as Baby Billy Freeman in The Righteous Gemstones , to his haunting performance in Fallout as the Ghoul/Cooper Howard, and his recent arc in The White Lotus . He's also the voice of Cecil Stedman in Amazon's Invincible . Sneider also mentioned that comedian Eric André and masked country artist Orville Peck are being considered for roles as well. André is reportedly up for the part of the ring announcer, an offbeat but solid fit given his chaotic energy. He's also worked with director Kitao Sakurai before on Bad Trip , so there's already a creative working relationship there. As for Peck, he's said to be in talks to play Vega, the claw-wielding, narcissistic Spanish fighter who blends bullfighting and ninjutsu into a deadly style. If that casting sticks, it would be one of the more inspired choices: Vega wears a mask, and so does Peck, whose mysterious, leather-clad persona could translate into something really cool in the movie. Earlier reports from May suggested that Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, Andrew Koji, and Noah Centineo were all in discussions to join the cast, though no official announcements have been made. It's still early days, but if Goggins does end up playing Bison, it will be interesting to see how he bring the character to life. I imagine it could be something strange, menacing, and a little unhinged. What do you think about this potential casting?
